What is the Manifesto?

The Manifesto For Justice and Human Rights in Palestine is a two-page document drafted by an independent and horizontal group of workers under the platform BSCxPalestine. The Manifesto introduces the current situation in Palestine and presents four key demands for the BSC center to take effective action in support of the Palestinian people.

  1. We demand that BSC speaks out publicly against the genocide and raises its voice to demand an immediate cessation of Israeli military activities in Palestine and the allowance of necessary humanitarian aid into Gaza, upholding the principles of international law and holding Israel to account.
  2. We demand that BSC does not adopt any new contract, agreement or collaboration that involves any Israeli organization or institution, or any private company based in Israel that does not explicitly recognize and condemn the genocide, apartheid, and occupation of the Palestinian people by the State of Israel.
  3. We demand that BSC supports initiatives aimed at strengthening the university system and academic relations with Palestine, similar to CSIC.
  4. We demand that BSC guarantees all employees’ right to conscientious objection. This includes the right to not participate in events, projects, proposals, and project-related management activities that involve Israeli organizations or institutions, or any private company based in Israel.

Why sign it?

For decades, the Palestinian people have endured illegal occupation, apartheid, and systematic violence by the State of Israel, as thoroughly documented by United Nations reports and leading human rights organizations. In recent years, this oppression has escalated into a massacre of unprecedented scale. In Gaza, civilians face bombardment, siege, and starvation—acts classified as genocide—while in the West Bank, unlawful killings, mass arrests, and settlement expansion continue under a regime of impunity.

The Palestinian people have the right to live in peace and freedom, including the right to freely determine their own political and economic system in their own State. Yet, Catalan, Spanish, and European institutions have failed to take meaningful action to stop this atrocity, why last ceasefire agreements do not give much hope.

In the absence of official efforts, we have formed the BSCxPalestine platform, an open and horizontal group of workers at BSC currently comprising around 80 members. Our goal is to ensure that the BSC center takes concrete and responsible measures regarding Israel’s crimes. While other institutions, such as CSIC, have already made public statements and adopted resolutions, BSC has remained silent and continues to collaborate with major Israeli institutions through Horizon Europe programs.

We believe that with enough signatures, we can make our collective voice impossible to ignore and compel BSC to align with principles of justice and human rights. History shows that collective action and boycotts can be effective tools for change, as demonstrated in South Africa, where international pressure helped bring an end to apartheid. It is also important to note that Israel ranks third among nineteen countries in overall participation in the Horizon Europe program, having received approximately €1.1 billion in funding since 2021. This level of collaboration highlights the urgent need for institutions like BSC to take a clear and ethical stance.

How to sign it?

You can digitally sign the Manifesto by sending an email from your BSC account (this ensures verification of your identity as a BSC worker). Once your email is received, your name will be added to the list of signatories that will accompany the Manifesto when it is formally presented to the BSC center.

Què és el Manifest?

El Manifest Justícia i Drets Humans per Palestina és un document de dues pàgines redactat per un grup independent i horitzontal de treballadors sota la plataforma BSCxPalestine. El Manifest introdueix la situació actual a Palestina i presenta quatre demandes clau perquè el centre BSC prengui mesures efectives en suport al poble palestí.

  1. Demanem que el BSC es pronunciï públicament en contra del genocidi i alci la veu per reclamar l’aturada immediata de les activitats militars israelianes a Palestina i l’entrada de l’ajuda humanitària necessària a Gaza, tot defensant els principis del dret internacional i responsabilitzant a Israel.
  2. Demanem que el BSC no adopti cap nou contracte, acord o col·laboració que impliqui qualsevol organització o institució israeliana, ni cap empresa privada amb seu a Israel, que no reconegui ni condemni explícitament el genocidi, l’apartheid i l’ocupació del poble palestí per part de l’Estat d’Israel.
  3. Demanem que el BSC doni suport a iniciatives dirigides a enfortir el sistema universitari i les relacions acadèmiques amb Palestina, de manera similar al CSIC.
  4. Demanem que el BSC garanteixi el dret de tots els empleats a l’objecció de consciència, incloent el dret de no participar en esdeveniments, projectes, propostes o qualsevol activitat que involucri organitzacions o institucions israelianes, o qualsevol empresa amb seu a Israel.

Per què signar-lo?

Durant dècades, el poble palestí ha patit ocupació il·legal, apartheid i violència sistemàtica per part de l’Estat d’Israel, com ha estat àmpliament documentat per informes de Nacions Unides i de les principals organitzacions de drets humans. En els darrers anys, aquesta opressió ha escalat fins a convertir-se en una massacre d’una magnitud immensa. A Gaza, la població civil pateix bombardejos, setge i fam —actes classificats com a genocidi— mentre que a Cisjordània continuen els assassinats il·legals, les detencions massives i l’expansió dels assentaments sota un règim d’impunitat.

El poble palestí té dret a viure en pau i llibertat, incloent-hi el dret a determinar lliurement el seu propi sistema polític i econòmic dins del seu Estat. Tot i això, les institucions catalanes, espanyoles i europees no han pres mesures significatives per aturar aquesta atrocitat, i els darrers acords d’alto el foc no ofereixen gaire esperança.

Davant la manca d’esforços oficials, hem format la plataforma BSCxPalestine, un grup obert i horitzontal de treballador@s del centre que actualment compta amb unes 80 persones. El nostre objectiu és assegurar que el BSC prengui mesures concretes i significatives davant els crims comesos per Israel. Mentre altres institucions, com el CSIC, ja han fet declaracions públiques i han adoptat resolucions, el BSC ha romàs en silenci i continua col·laborant amb institucions israelianes a través dels programes Horizon Europe.

Creiem que amb un número significatiu de signatures podem fer que la nostra veu col·lectiva sigui impossible d’ignorar i obligar el BSC a alinear-se amb els principis de justícia i drets humans. La història demostra que l’acció col·lectiva i els boicots poden ser eines efectives de canvi, com es va veure a Sud-àfrica, on la pressió internacional va contribuir a posar fi a l’apartheid. També és important destacar que Israel ocupa el tercer lloc entre dinou països en participació total en el programa Horizon Europe, havent rebut aproximadament 1.100 milions d’euros des del 2021. Aquest nivell de col·laboració posa de manifest la necessitat urgent que institucions com el BSC adoptin una postura clara i ètica.

Exigimos que el BSC no adopte ningún nuevo contrato, acuerdo o colaboración que involucre a cualquier organización o institución israelí, o cualquier empresa privada con sede en Israel que no reconozca y condene explícitamente el genocidio, el apartheid y la ocupación del pueblo palestino por parte del Estado de Israel.
  3. Exigimos que el BSC apoye iniciativas destinadas a fortalecer el sistema universitario y las relaciones académicas con Palestina, de manera similar al CSIC.
  4. Exigimos que el BSC garantice el derecho a la objeción de conciencia de todo el personal laboral. Esto incluye el derecho a no participar en eventos, proyectos, propuestas y actividades relacionadas con proyectos que involucren a organizaciones o instituciones israelíes, o a cualquier empresa con sede en Israel.

¿Por qué firmarlo?

El pueblo palestino tiene derecho a vivir en paz y libertad, incluido el derecho a determinar libremente su propio sistema político y económico en su propio Estado. Sin embargo, las instituciones catalanas, españolas y europeas han fallado en tomar medidas significativas para detener esta atrocidad, y los últimos acuerdos de alto el fuego no ofrecen mucha esperanza.

Ante la ausencia de esfuerzos oficiales, hemos formado la plataforma BSCxPalestine, un grupo abierto y horizontal de trabajador@s del BSC que actualmente cuenta con alrededor de 80 personas. Nuestro objetivo es garantizar que el BSC adopte medidas concretas y con impacto respecto a los crímenes de Israel. Mientras otras instituciones, como el CSIC, ya han hecho declaraciones públicas y aprobado resoluciones, el BSC ha permanecido en silencio y sigue colaborando con instituciones israelíes a través de programas de Horizon Europe.

Creemos que, con suficientes firmas, podemos hacer que nuestra voz colectiva sea imposible de ignorar y lograr que el BSC se alinee con los principios de justicia y derechos humanos. La historia demuestra que la acción colectiva y los boicots pueden ser herramientas eficaces para el cambio, como ocurrió en Sudáfrica, donde la presión internacional ayudó a poner fin al apartheid.
